CAMPAIGN PLATFORM FOR ED LEVINE
Magisterial District Court 38-1-28 (Lansdale and Towamencin)

SAFETY
As District Judge, I pledge to take a tougher stance on crime. There can be no leniency for criminal activity in our community. As Judge I will send a strong message that crime in Lansdale and Towamencin will not be tolerated and those who engage in criminal activity will suffer the greatest consequences under the law. I will work with our local law enforcement and Constables to create a secure environment for our citizens. Our police force is currently burdened with work our elected Constables should be performing. The courtroom regularly closes its doors during business hours and lacks the ability to communicate effectively with local law enforcement. All of this has created an unsafe environment for our community that can be fixed with some reasonable changes to the current system.

EFFICIENCY
As District Judge, I will run the courthouse efficiently and effectively. As it is the local administrative office for the collection of revenue from traffic and non-traffic violations, running District Court efficiently is essential to gathering the revenues that help to provide for our safety and prosperity. Our Court House doors should be consistently open to the public during standard business hours, and will do so under my watch. In the past, the court has been ineffective in collecting much needed revenues for our community by forcing the police to do the work of constables, diminishing the Court’s effectiveness in this crucial area. I pledge not only to have the court house open from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm daily, to have at least two nights a month designated for night court. A convenient accessible court house for our community can only make Lansdale and Towamencin a better place.

ACCESS
As District Judge I pledge to work with citizens, local government, and law enforcement to improve our community. This does not mean I will be beholden to law enforcement. I will, however, communicate with others outside the court room to gain perspective on the community and its needs. It is important for a District Judge to make sound legal decisions, as well communicate the reasoning for such decisions. The community does not need a District Judge that is unwilling to communicate effectively with law enforcement and our community. It is important for the Judge to stand behind his decisions, but it is also just as important to let those before him know what is needed to successfully uphold and understand the law.
