THE PLAN
NIGHT COURT
In some of my recent discussions with local law enforcement and members
of the community, it has come to light that with District Court burdened
with Traffic and Non-Traffic violations, and citizens finding it increasingly
difficult to take time off work in this difficult economic climate,
re-implementing Night Court would provide a flexible and cost-effective
solution to these issues.
I believe I can coordinate a staffing schedule for several nights out
of the month that would allow night hours without adding cost for overtime,
and I am happy to take on the additional hours to provide this service
to the community.
If elected, I would institute Night Court as soon as the County Court-mandated
hiring freeze is lifted.
Night Court has worked well in the past, and can work well again.
EDUCATION PLAN
A District Judge has an obligation to be a leader in the community and
should utilize the position in the community to educate ALL the citizens
in the local area. A judge committed fully to the court will have the
time to visit classrooms and educate teens about the consequences of
illegal activity. My background in television and communications has
honed my ability to articulate and present an organized, engaging and
informative presentation to our middle school students.
It is my vision to help minimize juvenile crimes by working with the
North Penn School District to develop a 30 minute presentation for ALL
8th graders about the consequences of underage drinking, drug possession,
disorderly conduct, drinking and driving, and other violations.
A FULL-TIME COMMITMENT TO THE POSITION
In Pennsylvania a District Judge is given a full-time salary, vacation
pay and health benefits. It is a full-time job and our community deserves
nothing less than someone who is fully committed to it.
The Rules of Conduct of District Judges state that “the business
of the court shall be given priority over any other occupation, business,
profession, pursuit, or activity,” yet under my opponent’s
leadership the court doors have closed early or in the middle of the
day.
Why?
Are there other matters being attended to during court hours? Is it
due to the fact that he manages and works at his private law practice
outside our District?
I believe the District Judge should be fully committed to the community
and I pledge to uphold that commitment. Our taxes are high enough, why
should not we get the most out of our tax dollars.
